ABOUT TAXLEY

What is Taxley?

Taxley is UK Corporation Tax filing software from Taxley UK LLP (LLP number OC461735, England and Wales) that lets directors of small limited companies prepare their own CT600 and iXBRL accounts, file the return to HMRC and file the accounts at Companies House. One fee per return covers both, paid only when you file.

Taxley at taxley.co.uk is a UK business and is not connected with taxley.com (a US tax-resolution business), Taxly or any other similarly named business.

  • Your Government Gateway user ID and password, with Corporation Tax added to the account. Use the user ID, not your email address.
  • The period’s figures: income, expenses and bank balance, plus last year’s accounts if the company has filed before.

How a dormant company return works
Do you need to file?

If HMRC has issued a notice to deliver a return, you must respond. Otherwise, a company HMRC knows is dormant usually does not need a Company Tax Return. Companies House accounts are separate. Read the GOV.UK guidance.

CT600 price for each plan

First year longer than 12 months? HMRC requires two CT600 returns, but it’s one filing with us, one fee.

Filing your accounts at Companies House is included in the fee, at no extra cost. Once the return is paid and the accounts are finished, file them from your filing page with your company’s Companies House authentication code.

INCLUDED AT A GLANCE

What’s included in Taxley?

Taxley prepares the CT600, the tax computation and iXBRL accounts, files the return to HMRC with the company’s own Government Gateway login, and then files the accounts at Companies House. Preparing is free and one fee per return is charged only when you file. The table shows what is covered and what is not.

What Taxley includes and what it doesn’t
What you want to knowTaxley’s answer
Files the CT600 to HMRCYes. Taxley submits the Company Tax Return directly to HMRC, using the company’s own Government Gateway login.
Files annual accounts at Companies HouseYes, live since 28 September 2026, at no extra cost. Once the return is paid and the accounts are finished, you file them from the filing page with the company’s 6-character Companies House authentication code. Taxley doesn’t file uploaded accounts, other accounts Companies House already has, first accounts for a period that doesn’t start on the company’s date of incorporation, or a community interest company’s accounts, which go to Companies House with a community interest company report. The accounts must end within 7 days of the accounting reference date Companies House holds; if they don’t, the filing page says what to do. It can file amended accounts that replace accounts it filed there, at no extra cost, with the figures as filed.
Accounts preparedTaxley prepares dormant, micro-entity (FRS 105) and small-company (FRS 102 Section 1A) accounts in iXBRL, together with the CT600 and the tax computation.
Accounts and tax from one set of figuresYes. You enter the figures once. Taxley prepares the accounts from them and works out the Corporation Tax from the accounts, so the CT600, the computation and the accounts agree.
Last year’s figuresWhen the company has no earlier Taxley return, last year’s balance sheet can be filled in from the accounts it filed at Companies House. For the following year, last year’s figures come from your previous Taxley return, and next year’s return starts with the company’s details already filled in.
How you payTaxley has no subscription. Preparing and previewing a return is free. You pay one fee per return, only when you file, and it also covers filing the accounts at Companies House. If HMRC rejects the return, correcting it and sending it again costs nothing extra. No VAT is charged. Current fees are in the pricing section.
First period longer than 12 monthsA first period of account longer than 12 months (up to 18) is split into two Corporation Tax periods and two CT600 returns automatically. It is one filing with Taxley, so you pay one fee.
Charities and community amateur sports clubsYes. Taxley supports charities and community amateur sports clubs (CASCs), with the full CT600E pages. Charities and CASCs that are only partly exempt aren’t supported.
Older yearsYes. Taxley files returns for older years, back to accounting periods that started on 1 April 2020.
AmendmentsA return filed with Taxley can be amended once HMRC has accepted it, normally within 12 months of the filing deadline. Amendments are only for returns originally filed with Taxley, and they are included at no extra charge.
Checks before you fileTaxley checks each return against HMRC’s CT600 schema and a set of HMRC’s business rules before it is sent. You can also run a test with HMRC’s test service first, which checks the format and figures; nothing is filed.
Your Government Gateway passwordTaxley never saves your Government Gateway password to your account or filing: you type it each time you file. While the return is being sent it is held encrypted, and if sending fails that record is deleted within three days. The user ID is kept, encrypted, in the submission record.
Accountants and agentsYes. Accountants and agents can file for clients in Taxley's agent mode, using their own Government Gateway login. See Taxley's CT600 software for accountants.
Not supported yetR&D relief, terminal loss claims and confirmation statements (CS01).

Frequently asked questions

A few things
you might be wondering.

Need a hand with something else?

Talk to us

How much does it cost to file a CT600?

Taxley charges one fee per return, paid only when you file: £9.50 for a dormant company, £39.95 with micro-entity accounts and £129 with small-company accounts. Prices cover filing the accounts at Companies House, and there is no VAT to add. Preparing your return is free, and there is no subscription.

Does Taxley also file my accounts at Companies House?

Yes. Companies House accounts filing has been live in Taxley since 28 September 2026, at no extra cost, for micro-entity, small, abridged and dormant accounts. Once the return is paid and the accounts are finished, press “File accounts at Companies House”, using the company's 6-character authentication code. Taxley can also file amended accounts that replace ones it filed there, figures unchanged. It doesn't file confirmation statements, uploaded accounts, other accounts Companies House already has, CIC accounts or some first accounts.

Who is this for?

Taxley is for directors of UK trading, services and property limited companies filing micro-entity (FRS 105) or small (FRS 102 §1A) accounts. Dormant companies, charities (CT600E) and community amateur sports clubs (CASCs) are supported, long first periods are split into two returns automatically, older years can be filed back to accounting periods that started on 1 April 2020, and you can manage multiple companies under one account. Accountants and agents can also file on behalf of clients (agent mode) using their own Government Gateway login.

Do I still need an accountant?

You don't need an accountant to file what Taxley supports, but Taxley is software, not advice: check your figures, and ask an adviser about anything you're unsure of. Taxley carries trading and property losses forward and sets them against profits for you, and calculates most capital allowances claims for you. It also works out most chargeable gains on UK property and shares bought in one go. It works out section 455 tax on a director's loan that's still outstanding. Group relief between UK companies in a 75% group is supported too. Overseas interest, dividends and rent are supported, with relief for foreign tax. A trading loss can be carried back to the previous 12 months. Terminal loss claims or R&D claims aren't supported yet — Taxley can't file those parts of a return; parts of the computation and iXBRL tagging that need judgement are marked in the product for you to check carefully.

How is my data protected?

Taxley encrypts personal identifiers and generated filings at rest, serves all traffic over TLS, and lets you export or delete your data at any time. See the Security page.

Can I file my company's CT600 myself?

Yes. As a company director, you're legally responsible for your Corporation Tax return, and you're free to file it yourself — directly with commercial software such as Taxley, or through an accountant or tax agent. See GOV.UK's guidance (opens in a new tab).

What replaced HMRC's free filing service?

HMRC's free 'File your accounts and Company Tax Return' service closed on 31 March 2026. Since 1 April 2026, companies must use commercial software, such as Taxley, to file their Company Tax Return online. See GOV.UK (opens in a new tab), or our guide on choosing CT600 software.

Late CT600 filing means an automatic £200 HMRC penalty (£100 if your filing date was before 1 April 2026). Check your filing deadline ↗
